About Us
Fáilte romhat go Scoil Náisiúnta Séipéal na Carraige. Welcome to our school website. This website gives an introduction to those who form our school community - our pupils, parents, Board of Management, staff. We are a small but vibrant community and our school is an integral part of our village and parish life.
Rockchapel National School is situated in the parish of Rockchapel in the north western corner of county Cork. The school is overlooking the small village of Rockchapel which is nestled in the Mullaghereirk mountains, on the banks of the river Feale, on the R576 regional road.
Rockchapel National School is a mixed rural primary school. It is in the diocese of Cloyne and under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cloyne. It caters for girls and boys from four to twelve years. Our school team consists of mainstream class teachers, support teachers, part-time secretary, cleaner and caretaker, who work together to provide a "home away from home" for the children entrusted to their care, in an inclusive supportive environment.
The present school was built in 1951, replacing the previous school in the village, which has since been demolished and replaced by houses. The school was extended in 1974, when three new classrooms were built. The existing classrooms were then decomissioned and turned into a large General Purpose Room, which has in recent times undergone another transformation into a library and staff room.
This quiet picturesque region in the barony of Duhallow, is steeped in tradition. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann (CCE) both play a huge role in the life of this community. Most of the youth of the area are involved in Gaelic Football or traditional music (or often both!). The parish is located in the culturally rich area of Sliabh Luachra, where traditional music plays a very significant part.
The school motto is Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí (Praise the youth and they will flourish).
